1) My dad has a genetic mutation called situs inversus, which is only seen in about 0.01% of all people. Essentially it means that all of his organs are reversed or on the opposite side of where they should be. He said he actually only found this out when he was in his late teens and felt like he was having an appendicitis- the doctor’s couldn’t find anything wrong, however, when they opened him up the first time because they were looking in the wrong place. Nearly a week later and still in extreme pain because of the ruptured appendix, he went back to the hospital and an older doctor recognized what the problem was and told them to look on the other side.
2) I didn’t so much learn this today as just realize it through conversation about the “6 Degrees of Separation” thing, but I’m technically One degree of separation away from Andy Warhol and David Bowie and Two away from Einstein. The first two were both by way of professors who knew them through art and the third is from an old science teacher I had who had been taught by a pupil of Einstein.
We all agreed that the bear looked pretty ballin’.
